Biography of Comfort

I will write my biography about the Ghanaian girl Comfort Adams Wiredu. First I will give some general information about her:
Comfort’s hometown is Moree, near to Cape Coast in Ghana’s south. She was born in Sansandra (Cote d’Ivoire) on 4th March 1992 so now she is 19 years old but almost 20, she told me proudly. Comfort – which means “relief” in English or “Trost” in German – is also called Conny, a nickname she gave herself. But she likes Comfort as well as Conny.
After this general information, I will write about her family situation which is a little different from what for example I am used to: Conny lives alone with her two sisters (14 and 19 years old) in Moree because her parents, who are traders, work in Cote d’Ivoire so they are not at home. I was very curious about her living alone only with her sisters so I asked how the absence of her parents influences her relationship to them. She replied that it was still very good (as well as her relationship to her sisters) because they contact their daughters regularly. The rest of Conny’s family, e.g. her uncle or cousins, live close to her, either in Moree or in Accra, which is about three hours away.

I wanted to know quite a lot of Conny’s favourite things which I am going to list now: Conny loves Hip Live and Gospel. Hip Live is a musical direction with a lot of beat – that is also the reason for Conny liking it. Her favourite musician is a Gospel singer called Christiana Love and her favourite song at the moment is “Be magnified”.
When Conny eats, she loves to have Jollof Rice or chips as meal. Her favourite colour is pink, her favourite animal is a dog, her favourite flower is a rose and her favourite TV-show is called “Tinsel”. We attend the Moree Senior High Technical School and so do Conny and her best friend Florence. Her favourite subjects at school are English and Science.
I also asked Conny whether she likes living in Ghana or if she would like to go or even live somewhere else. She seemed very convinced as she said that she liked living in Ghana or rather Moree. But she would also like to go somewhere else for vacation because she wants to see the world and experience more about it. I wondered whether she had been in another city or not because she seemed to be very interested in other countries or even cities. She told me that she had been in Accra, Ghana’s capital.
The next topic I asked her about was politics and her political attitude. First of all I asked about her opinion concerning Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president and the person who is always connected with the country’s decolonization in 1957. Conny said that the definitely likes Kwame Nkrumah. She is proud to be Ghanaian and to belong to the country which was the first in this part of Africa that became independent. Afterwards I asked her about her opinion concerning John Atta Mills, the present president of Ghana. In her opinion he does a very good job and there is nothing she could criticize about him. I was a little surprised when she told me that she was not sure if she will vote for him or not but she said that there could maybe be a better candidate.

English is the official language in Ghana but that does not mean that there aren’t other ethnic languages. In Moree this language is called Fanti.

I wanted to know if Conny liked Fanti and she answered that the liked it because of the sound. I am under the impression that she is one of the people who are not only able to speak Fanti, but who can write it as well.
The last thing I want to write about in this biography is a typical week in Conny’s everyday life and afterwards about her weekends. Conny wakes up at 5 am each day without any alarm clock. She starts her day by sweeping and fetching water and after finishing these chores, she takes a bath. Conny leaves her house at 6:30 am and walks to her school which starts at 7:00 am and ends at 3:00 pm. After school Conny does her homework and studies. Furthermore, she cooks food for her sisters and herself, and after eating she sleeps at 9:00 pm. At the moment, Conny is also supposed to take part in a workshop in the afternoons so her day at school actually ends at 4:30 pm right now.
As I said I will write about Conny’s weekends which are very different in comparison with my own: On Saturdays Conny usually washes the clothing at first. After washing she takes part in studying science in her school and when she has finished studying, she relaxes and enjoys her leisure.  On Sundays Conny goes to the Catholic Church in Moree, she washes clothes again but only her uniform, and then she studies.
For her future, Conny wishes for a good job, nice children (2 or 3) and a job as a nurse.
